This gorgeous tea caddy is made in the traditional Greek Sarcophagus form that was immensely popular during the Georgian period and saw an enthusiastic revival during the late Victorian and early Edwardian era. We understand from our friends who do medieval re-enacting that it is also suitable for certain earlier times and places as well. Its two outer compartments are tin-lined to help the tea stay fresh and keep its flavour. The lady of the house would have used the central glass to blend enough tea for one day for the entire household (upstairs and downstairs), then sent the glass downstairs with the servants and put the rest of the tea back under lock and key where it belonged. This piece would have received similar use in the field, though typically under the careful care of an officer's batman. All of the internal pieces and dividers are removable for easy maintenance and cleaning. The top is covered in richly embossed brass, and the box is finished with metal latch and brackets for a wonderful period appearance. Approximately 34.5cm x 19.25cm x 23cm (13.5" x 7.5" x 9").
